About Us

Portsdean Heating was founded in 1964 by John Bowyer and Dave Evans, one from Portchester and the other from Horndean. They decided to combine the two names and Portsdean Heating limited started trading out of a garage at Portchester.

With one van and a small workshop the two founder members worked long hours and started to become recognized as a professional plumbing and heating company. The first 10 years of business was just down to hard work trying to build a reputation for good quality installation of solid fuel, gas and oil boilers. The time came and the two founder members parted and Dave Evans moved to working in his own business specializing in metal work and John Bowyer continued to build the plumbing and heating business.

Voluntary membership of trade organizations such as the National coal board and a new organization called CORGI pushed the company into a driving force for quality and safety in all the aspects of work that they undertook.

The company soon became sort after for quality installations and larger companies engaged Portsdean in contracts that would see the company rapidly expand. The refurbishment of the Labour party headquarters at Woolworth Road, London was just one of the projects that John can look back on with pride.

Portsdean saw the revolution in the 1980 of home owning and the need for the upgrade of old systems to the new gas central heating and specialized in the repair and installation of a new type of boiler to the UK called the Combination Boiler. It was not long until Major boiler manufacturers saw Portsdean as an obvious choice to partner in the discharge of warranty work. Partnerships with Ariston, Alpha Innovation, Biasi, CORGI saw the business grow into what it is today.

Under the leadership of Ian Bowyer, the current Managing Director, the company continues to offer a very professional service to a customer base of over 10,000 local and national customers. Portsdean has also seen a growth in partnerships with Local Housing Associations offering a quick honest response.
